Rules & Guidelines

  1. Project Pyramid Case Competition will consist of two rounds. Round one will be held online from September 28, 2007 – October 6, 2007. The final round case question will be distributed on October 21, 2007. The teams will then have 10 days to prepare their solutions, and they will present these solutions at Vanderbilt University on November 1, 2007. The top three teams will then be required to showcase their presentations to corporate executives during the Net Impact Conference on November 3, 2007. All finalists must register to attend the Net Impact Conference.
     
  2. The participating schools can submit multiple teams consisting of four (4) to six (6) members. At least 3 of the team members must be currently enrolled in their respective business school. No student can participate on more than one (1) team.
     
  3. The case will be distributed at 12:00PM NOON CST on Friday, September 28, 2007, via email to each team.
      
  4. Once the case is distributed, outside help from anyone including faculty members is prohibited. However, teams may utilize any publicly available research material.
     
  5. Questions regarding the case should be submitted by email to support.ppcase@owen.vanderbilt.edu. If the question is deemed critical by the judges, the question and answer will be distributed to all of the teams. All questions must be submitted by 3:00 PM on Wednesday, October 3, 2007.
     
  6. The online round submission (in Word format only) must be submitted by 11:59 PM CST on Saturday, October 6, 2007 to Project.pyramid@owen.vanderbilt.edu.
     
  7. Teams must select a team name that does not reference their respective school. No school colors, logos, mascots or any other school references should be included in the teams’ presentation materials. This includes PowerPoint presentations, slides, posters, clothing and other documents. Each team participant is prohibited from telling the judges their respective school affiliation until after the competition. A resume book will be distributed to pertinent judges as well as attending companies after the competition is completed. 
     
  8. The final round question will be distributed at 8:00AM CST on Sunday, October 21, 2007, via email to each team.
     
  9. The final round submission (in PowerPoint format only) must be submitted via email by 11:59 PM CST on Tuesday, October 30, 2007. Prior to the first team’s presentation, each team will submit six (6) black and white copies of their PowerPoint presentation as well as a CD-Rom or USB flash drive (pc-compatible) with their PowerPoint presentation stored on it.
     
  10. The presentations must not exceed 20 minutes followed by five minutes of questions from the judges. A time-keeper will be present and presentations will be stopped at the 20 minute mark. If a team finishes early, the time will be added to the judges’ question and answer time. Every team member must have a speaking part during the presentation.
     
  11. All teams will be allowed to attend the final round presentations.
     
  12. Business professional dress is required for team presentations on Wednesday. Business casual attire is adequate for the Thursday night welcome reception.
     
  13. All travel expenses including hotel, airline, and ground transportation are the sole responsibility of each team and/or sponsoring school.
     
  14. Cash awards in the amount of $10,000, $3,000 & $2,000 will be awarded to the 1st, 2nd & 3rd place teams, respectively. These awards will be distributed through the US mail to the team members after the competition. These awards are considered taxable income. 
     
  15. Failure to comply with these rules will result in penalties or disqualification.
